The persistent rise of drug research and development costs, observed in product successes and product failures alike, is a familiar topic among pharmaceutical innovators. As pharma navigates investments in the promise of technology + big data to drive more efficient and effective drug discovery, industry watchers have posed thought-provoking questions about how success can be achieved. While capturing and organizing vast organizational and public data is fundamental to the challenge, “getting the right people in the room” to best leverage the consolidated data is perhaps another. In answer to these questions, we highlight recent successful developments arising from collaborations between data scientists/informaticians and synthetic process development researchers.
