In the production of a drug product or dietary supplement, the quality of ingredients matter. Supplier qualification programs are meant to address concerns regarding ingredient quality. However, the complex and global nature of supply chains combined with resource constraints can inhibit the finished product manufacturer’s ability to qualify suppliers. Third-party verification of ingredients can help ensure ingredient quality of and reduce the risk of inconsistent and substandard quality in the finished product. As an integrated part of the supplier qualification process, the USP ingredient verification programs can help manufacturers free up resources to address other critical quality risks.
