Christopher J. Welch is a Principal with Welch Innovation, LLC (www.welchinnovation.com) specializing in separation science, stereochemistry, high throughput experimentation, pharmaceutical analysis and process research. Dr. Welch has worked in a variety of fields within the chemical industry, ranging from agrochemicals (Velsicol-Sandoz) to diagnostics (Abbott) to small chemical businesses (Regis Technologies) to pharmaceuticals (Merck & Co., Inc.). While at Merck, Dr. Welch invented and applied new purification, analysis and high throughput experimentation technologies for pharmaceutical process research, also creating and administering Merck's postdoctoral research fellows program and managing a multi-million dollar fund and research network that identified, evaluated and acquired new enabling technologies for pharmaceutical discovery and development. Dr. Welch currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for Snapdragon Chemistry and as a Science Advisor for U.S. Food and Drug Administration Northeast Food & Feed Lab and Northeast Medical Products Lab. He also serves as Director of the Indiana Consortium for the Analytical Sciences, a joint venture between Purdue University, Indiana University and Notre Dame University. He has authored more than 275 scientific publications and patents, and serves on the boards of a number of journals and professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the recipient of a number of awards, including the Chirality Medal and the 2017 EAS Award in Separation Science.
